HOF Joke

20130109-205257.jpg

The Baseball Hall of Fame announced their 2013 induction class yesterday. First timers on the ballot Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza, it was a whose who of late 80′s and early 90′s baseball stars that dominated into the 2000′s. Yet not a one was elected into the Hall of Fame.

So let me see if I understand this correctly…These voters gave Bonds the MVP four years in a row as they watched him destroy the all time home run record but didn’t put him on their HOF ballot. Roger Clemens won seven Cy Young Awards but was on almost as many ballots? Arguably the best pitcher in our generation (I’ll argue Pedro was) but doesn’t get the call?

Look I’ve ripped all these steroid guys and include guys like pretty much the entire 2004 Red Sox team of doing them. Just because someone never failed a test doesn’t mean they weren’t using them. But really, how different is this than all the amphetamines that teams did in the 70′s and pretty much right up until 2005? Those guys got in. Just saying.

I want to say the writers are a joke. Edgar Martinez was the most dominant DH we’ve seen, but since he played DH they don’t want him in the Hall. Dumb. Though never failed a test, Mike Piazza was pretty much the best catcher for a decade. Don’t want him. Jeff Bagwell, looked like a steroid guy. Guilty by association, don’t want him.

See where I’m going with this? These writers are hypocrites. They’re in these locker rooms. They had to know what these guys were doing, they were in the locker rooms. They gave them all those accolades (MVP, Silver Slugger, Cy Young) but when it comes to the Hall of Fame they grow a conscience? Give me a break.

Stop playing God and let them all in. Because I can tell you, nothing about Craig Biggio makes me think Hall of Fame.

Oh Roger

We’ve gone over this before but every time they run the Clemens stuff on the news I think back to this clip. This version of it was uploaded five years ago just to give you an idea of how long this garbage has been going on.

Back to the issue at hand. At Mazz’s request I won’t get into your tax dollars at work. But I think it’s pretty silly that we’re still paying over $3 a gallon for gas, there are hundreds of thousands of people unemployed, a broken budget, and people’s homes being foreclosed on. But we’ll concentrate on a baseball player’s possible lying to congress.

Well, he’s was found not guilty of obstruction of Congress. Congress had a shitty case, shitty witnesses, and Clemens like Bonds before him has money. Money enough to get much better lawyers that will tear down the governments case and that’s exactly what they did.

So now that Clemens was found not guilty we all admit that he didn’t do steroids, right?

Um, no fucking chance. We all know he did. Thing is, just like Bonds, he would have been great with or without the juice. When everyone’s doing it, isn’t the playing field pretty level. Between the steroids, the HGH, and the amphetamines it’s amazing that players weren’t just dropping dead on the field from liver failure.

So Clemens played in the “juiced” ERA and was the best pitcher in a generation. Thing is, he continued to pitch even after they’d started testing and wasn’t ever caught.

The entire 2004 Red Sox, I still believe, were on the juice. I mean, fat Millar all of a sudden is in shape. Same with Trot Nixon. Damon we know did, that guy was all kinds of shredded. Manny and Ortiz were both on the list of players that failed in 2003. I’m sure that fat bastard Schilling was on it, why not Pedro on HGH To try and get his shoulder right?

I’m just saying, even if it’s against the law, if everyone’s doing it, is it cheating?

That’s the question that the Baseball Writers of America are going to have to wrestle with. I saw a few guys last night saying how they voted for Mark McGuire and Rafael Palmeiro but would have a real problem with Clemens. Really? Why, because he’s an asshole?

It just doesn’t seem right. I think if you’re going to let in one juicehead, you need to let all of them in. If Bonds jacked 73 home runs in a season and walked less than he homered, well, if he’s playing within the rules at the time, put him in. You can have a separate wing in the hall for the era if you feel so strongly about it.

My final take on the whole thing. Clemens is an asshole. When he left the Sox he said it was for a chance to win, then he went to Toronto because they were going to pay him the most. Don’t lie and say it’s for the chance to win. Tell the truth you chased the money. Then when he forced a trade to New York and became a Yankee, we hated him. Loathed that move. Despicable.

The whole I’m going to retire, not retire, play half a season in Houston if you give me a Hummer and I can play with my buddy Andy Pettite. Loathsome. But he was good at his job before, during, and after steroids. So if you’re going to let McGuire in, I say you have to let this guy and Bonds (two guys I really don’t like).

Mistrial

He's not on drugs?

Yesterday the Roger Clemens perjury case ended almost as quickly as it began.

The trial that was several years in coming to fruition was declared a mistrial as the prosecutor presented video evidence that the judge had ruled inadmissible before the trial had began.

I wonder if the video that was shown was this one?

Of course I joke but in a day where baseball came back but the Sox still had the night off you have to find some news. So if I can make you laugh in the process using a video I posted on the blog 2 years ago, so be it.

Monday we’ll be back with a recap of the Sox weekend against Tampa Bay.

A-Roid

yankees-11

So let’s see if I have this correct…

Clemens – Yankee – Steroids
Pettite – Yankees – Steroids
Giambi – Yankee – Steroids
Sheffield – Yankee – Steroids

…and now, Gay-Rod, A-Fraud, the new one being the best one, A-Roid.

The email came across my desk yesterday asking if we go with Ste-Rod or A-Roid. It was a resounding yes on the A-Roid. One of the first columns I wrote (click here) was who do you hate more A-Rod or Bonds. Well, now A-Rod has become Bonds. This guy went from being a cheater to being more of a cheater.

I’m sure we remember this…

this…

arod-purse4

and more recently this…

arod0522

So there’s the hand slapping, intentionally trying to take out Pedroia with a slide, baseball cheating. Then there’s the wife cheating.

When you heard that A-Roid was on drugs, besides collagen for his purple lips did it really surprise you? And when he went on ESPN and told Peter Gammons that he only did them from 2001-2003 did you believe that? I didn’t either. So you’re telling me he got hurt and then stopped using steroids. OK, maybe he did, but you can’t tell me that didn’t open a door for HGH.

The more important thing is, who are the other 103 guys on the list. Release all the names. I want to know who’s dirty. I don’t care if Pedro, Manny, and Nomar are all on the list. Although if Pedro was on the steroids, he should probably ask for his money back.

Baseball needs to just put this chapter behind it. Let the fans know who was dirty and who was clean.

If nothing else, take a page from Clemens and just admit it.

Today’s the Day

So the Celtics won again and have the potential to be the first C’s team since ’86 to be 41-9, we all know how the ’86 season ended. But I wanted to talk about one of our other “heros” from ’86, no not Bruce Hurst, I was thinking of the guy still in the headlines, Rocket Roid Clemens.

I said it before on these very pages but who would’ve thought that it was true?

The joke on the video says something to the effect that Clemens had his family injected with drugs and we all had a good chuckle. Now it turns out that Clemens had Brian McNamee inject his wife, Debbie Clemens pictured below all ripped after 4 kids, with Human Growth Hormone.

I understand the defense of deny, deny and if that doesn’t work, deny some more but this is getting ridiculous. One of these guys is lying and it’s not that big a deal in regards to the whether Clemens’ Cy Youngs will be taken away or wins taken away; it’s do these guys understand perjury?

Clearly they don’t get it, or Clemens really is that arrogant to think that he’s so rich he can buy lawyers and buy his way out if this whole mess. Take a note from the book of Rodney Harrison and Andy Pettite, admit you did it. Say you were trying to come back from an injury and that was it.

If it comes out that you did it and you lied about it this entire time, just kiss your Hall Of Fame bid goodbye. You can join Pete Rose down the street as the what could’ve beens had you not lied.
