Quick, Everyone, Off The Bandwagon

Patrick Lalime is no Ryan Miller.

I guess that’s the lesson that we can take away from last night’s game. After beating the Sabres last week at the TD Garden, the Sabres won at HSBC Arena in a large part to starting goaltender Ryan Miller.

After falling behind in the first period, the Bruins came out swinging in the second. In fact they dominated the second period outshooting the Sabres 24-8. Unfortunately for the B’s one of those eight found the back of the net and that was the difference maker.

But what did I like?

How about the physicality of the Bruins. Lucic, Thornton, and even Chara with his college hockey cage on his helmet, brought some intensity. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bruins do the exact same thing tomorrow night and really beat up the Sabres. The old adage, if you can’t win the game, win the fight.

But I don’t foresee the Bruins losing the game. Really their goal is to steal one in Buffalo and take it back to Boston. Well, Tuukka played very well despite the loss, so I expect that to stay the same. He doesn’t give up stupid, flop around on the ground like a fish, rebounds like Thomas and that’s a huge asset to the team.

While other people are jumping off the bandwagon and probably blaming Wideman for the loss, it’s way too early for that. And this is from a guy that wrote the team off in January (my bad). Excited for tomorrow’s matinee in Buffalo. Let’s hope it ends in a Bruins win.

What a Great Weekend

I mean Friday’s post was shock and awe, today’s is that plus 1,000. Who would have thought, not only that the Bruins would win but, that they would come back 2-1 and 3-2 and win 5-4. Amazing!

So on the Bruins front it’s a game seven tonight in Montreal and really you have to think that the B’s have momentum in their favor. They scored just five goals in the first four games and exploded for five goals in each of the last two. I make no prediction for tonight as I’ve written them off as dead since the post season started and don’t want to jump on the Johnny Come Lately Bandwagon. What I can say is that playoff hockey is awesome!

The Sox came back to win Sunday’s game without Manny in the lineup as he was ousted in the second inning. I think the only change I would have made is in the top of the ninth I’d have Youk in left, Lowrie at third, Pedroia at second, and I’d have kept Lugo at short. Just my opinion as Youk has at least played in left before.

The Sox going into their AM game today for Marathon Monday have won four straight and seven of their last eight, oh and they have the best record in the A.L. Not bad for a team without it’s starting third baseman and a questionable rotation after Beckett.

In other baseball news, Frank Thomas was released by the Blue Jays. Now, I don’t want Frank Thomas on the Sox (there’s really no room for him) but wouldn’t be surprised if he would up in Tampa Bay. Could this open the door to Barry Bonds possibly going to the Jays? That was my first thought, but only time will tell.

And finally we come to the team that most of Boston was buzzing about, the Celtics. There is little doubt in this writer’s mind that the C’s sweep the first round. It’s almost a no brainer. Especially if you base it on last nights whopping of the Hawks. It’s almost like the NFL and a buy for the C’s.

So Sox this morning, Bruins tonight, and then you have to wait till Wednesday to see the Celtics again. Let’s hope the Bruins are ready for prime time tonight. I’m actually excited to watch a hockey game for the first time in about 5 years.

The Bruins…Win!!!

While watching Dice-K struggle through yet another outing (which sucks because he’s on my fantasy team) in which he couldn’t find the strike zone and his pitch count was in the 90′s in the fucking 4th, I got curious as to what Boston’s other team was up to on Sunday night.

So I flipped over to NESN and caught the Bruins tied at one heading with about 15 minutes left in the third period. I watched Tim Thomas save his team’s season time and time again, making saves like he was standing on to of his head. Crazy. I was actually drawn into a hockey game. In my defense, playoff hockey is awesome.

Now that I’m hooked in I couldn’t turn away. So what happened in the overtime. Well, Thomas continued to play like a man possessed while his defense left him out to dry with a complete inability to clear the puck out of their own zone. Then the Canadiens got called for a penalty. Then as Thomas hit the bench, Marc Savard, who just came back from injury, notched the game winning goal.

Holy shit the Bruins won!!!

Offense?

Can the fucking Red Sox go to a Home Depot or fucking Walmart and pick up some fucking offense?

Are you fucking kidding me?

What an absolute joke this “powerhouse” offense is. Last year we had a bottom third of the line-up that was an absolute turd. You knew that once the the #6 batter was out the next hope for a hit was your leadoff hitter which set up the team for plenty of double plays, strikeouts, and plenty of rally killing outs with runners on base.

So heading into the off-season the team upgraded where? That’s right, no-fucking-where. In essence Theo and his brain-trust figured the team was fine. An albatros at shortstop who not only sucks at the plate, but blows giant donkey balls in the field, a catcher who can’t bat his weight (in his defense he calls an incredible game), and a $14M mistake in right field.

I know it’s only April, I really understand this, but come on!! This is fucking ridiculous! Your only regular guys batting over .300 are Youk and the $14M mistake, Drew. They’ve managed 8 home runs and scored a whopping 29 runs in their 9 games. So you think 3.2 (roughly) runs a game are going to win you games when you have the likes of Clay Buchholz and John Lester in your rotation? Wake the fuck up and smell the Maple Nut Crunch (second use on the blog of the obscure Denis Leary reference).

Thank Christ the Celtics keep winning, well not Wednesday against the Wizards and they looked pathetic against the Bucks blowing a 25 point lead on Tuesday. I guess we can get distracted by watching the Bruins get swept in the 1st round of the NHL playoffs.

I’m not saying that there needs to be a roster overhaul, but seriously. Da Guy has been saying it for a few months now. SHAKE IT THE FUCK UP!!!! Oh and Mike Lowell is hurt for who knows how long. This anemic lineup is horseshit.

I’m going to whack down a six pack to calm my nerves and try and forget this bullshit.
