Well, all of a sudden maybe not. Yesterday Clemens held a press conference and played a tape where Brian McNamee basically apologized over and over to Roger and repeatedly ask him what he wants Roger to do. Roger just says that he wants the truth.
What was great was that none of the radio stations were ready, neither was ESPN, for all the fucks and shits that the two exchanged on the phone. Opie and Anthony would have been pulled off the radio for it but because this was “news” I’m sure there won’t be any FCC fines. I loathe the double standard.
The latest is the McNamee was told by the people on the Mitchell Commission that the “truth” was the he injected Roger Clemens and that if he perjured himself against that “truth” he would go to jail. Yet, watching the press conference yesterday, he was seething. Like he was ready to Roid Rage snap and throw the podium at the press. Livid!
Clemens actually wrapped up the press conference by telling Hall of Fame voters to “keep their votes” after swearing like a sailor. Time will tell when he goes before Congress and testifies under oath. Remember McGuire wasn’t there to talk about the past, it’ll be interesting to see how Clemens reacts under oath.
Bottom line is that if McNamee lied because the Mitchell Commision told him that was the “truth” it pretty much will discredit a huge majority of the report. We all know players used steroids but without the cooperation of the players themselves (subpoenas people!!) you’re not going to get the entire truth.
