NFL Week 16 Picks

At least there wasn’t Thursday football this week. but only one Saturday game…that’s weak. here we go.

Atlanta (-3.5) vs @Detroit
The lone Saturday game. After shutting out the Giants last week, I’m starting to think Atlanta may be better than I thought. We’ll see when they face someone real in the playoffs. Taking the Falcons.

@Dallas (-2.5) vs New Orleans
At Dallas so I’ll take Dallas. Had the game been in New Orleans it would be the Saints.

@Green Bay (-12.5) vs Tennessee
The first of a few double digit spreads this week. Taking theTitans fresh off beating the Jets to cover in this one. Sure they don’t win but I hate the 12.5.

Indianapolis (6.5) vs @Kansas City
We know how I feel about KC. I’ll root super hard for them next week, but we know Indy is going to crush them.

@Miami (-4.5) vs Buffalo
Buffalo fresh off letting up 50 against the Seahawks have to fly down to Miami. Good luck with that. Taking the Dolphins easily.

@New York (NYJ) (-2) vs San Diego
The Jets benched Sanchez after his season long turnover fest ended with a fumble in Tennessee. So part of me wants to pick them based on that fact. Then I realize they’re still the Jets. Taking the Chargers in this one.

Washington (-6.5) vs @Philadelphia
Philly how I hate thee. Taking Washington and hoping RG3 will destroy them.

@Pittsburgh (-3.5) vs Cincinnati
Tough call with the game at Pittsburgh. For all that we as Pats fans fear the Steelers, they’re not that good this year. Injuries have devastated them. So I’m taking Cincinnati in the upset.

@Tampa Bay (-3) vs St. Louis
Go home St Louis. Bucs win.

@Carolina (-9) vs Oakland
Don’t like the spread here either. Sure it’s Oakland coming east again but I think they show up for a game…and lose by a touchdown.

New England (-14.5) vs @Jacksonville
Speaking of spreads I hate…Depending on what they can see going on with Houston, the Pats could pull their starters early in this and just tank for the #4 seed. It’s more likely next week when the picture is a little clearer. But if they rest players in the fourth, the Jags will cover and that’s my cover.

@Houston (-8) vs Minnesota
Selfishly rooting for the Vikings. I don’t think it’ll happen so I pick Houston, but I’m totally rooting for the Vikings this week.

@Denver (-13) vs Cleveland
Another double digit spread I don’t like. I’m rooting so hard for the Browns this week. Hard enough I’m taking them to cover and hoping they have a horseshoe up their ass and can pull the massive upset.

Chicago (5.5) vs @Arizona
Easy, Chicago. AZ is a bag of suck.

New York (NYG) (-2.5) vs @Baltimore
Giants are licking their wounds. I think I’m taking the under in this game all day long. Giants bounce back in a low scoring affair.

@Seattle vs San Francisco
Seattle looks legit. San Fran IS legit. But it’s at Seattle. Vegas is calling it a pick ‘em so I’ll take Seattle that’s scored 108 points the last two weeks. Pumped and jacked indeed.

Looking like the blog will be off till Wednesday. We’ll see you then.

Rooting for the Jets

So for everyone living under a rock, let’s break down this weekend’s AFC scenario. Keep in mind that these scenarios are all assuming that the Patriots beat Buffalo, at Buffalo. I’m predicting a 35-10 Pats victory.

We’re all Jets fans this weekend. It’s as easy as this, if the Jets win, the Patriots win the AFC East. Plain and simple. So as the headline reads, we’re rooting for the Jets. We’re hoping that Brett Favre rediscovers his early season form and lights up the scoreboard, sore shoulder and all, and beats the Dolphins.

What if the Dolphins win? Well, they’d win the AFC East. The Patriots would be on the outside looking in and would need some serious help. So as the Jets and Miami game is on, you’ll be scoreboard watching hoping that somehow the Jaguars can knock off the Ravens. Then the Patriots would get in as the Wild Card team.

So Patriots take care of their own business and I’m sure the team stays at Ralph Wilson and turns on the TV’s and hopes to see the Jets win. It sucks to root for that rat fink Mangina, but it’s what we have to do.

Back Monday with hopefully some good news.

Who’s Psyched for this Weekend?

rings
  So last week I had the whole slate of games up for preview and ended up blowing every spread but getting the over/under right on three of the four games. This week I’m going to hope for better but I’m only going to do the in depth stuff for one game this week, the one that matters.

This Saturday night your undefeated (sounds good doesn’t it) Patriots will host the Jacksonville Jag-u-ars at Foxboro. The last time these two faced off was in December of 2006. Remember that game? The Pats went down to Jacksonville and beat the Jags 24-21. But the game I remember is the Pats CRUSHING the Jags at Gillette in January of 2006 28-3.

The Pats are a 13 point favorite in this game. That’s pretty much where the line has held all week. So the questions is, which Patriots/Jags match-up are we going to see? The dominant Pats whooping them in the playoffs or the squeaked out win in Jacksonville in December? I’m predicting the former. There’s no way Belichick wasn’t thinking that he was playing Jacksonville. He knew that the Titans would lose to the Chargers and the Jags would beat Pittsburgh

So what happens in the game? Well, the weather forecast is clear, hardly any wind and not too cold, considering it’s January in Massachusetts. This will help the Pats passing attack (stating the obvious gain). Considering the Jags passing attack has been non existent (no fault of their QB, they just have shitty receivers) they have to rely on their ground attack

The Pats will go up early forcing Jacksonville to abandon it’s ground attack and that will pretty much take them right out of the game. Jones-Drew and Taylor are their offence and without them contributing makes for a long night for the Jags. Playing from behind and forcing their quarterback to win it for them, regardless of how bad the Patriots secondary is (and they haven’t been playing great), the Jags receivers aren’t good enough to win the game for them.

All that being said, I think once the Pats get the lead (Brady to Moss, Brady to Welker, Gaffney fly) they’ll be more apt to hand the ball off and run out the clock. Coach Bill was all about blowing teams out in the regular season, but his M.O. in the post season is to get up early and run out the clock.

Setting up a rematch of last years AFC Championship match (see below) but this time on our turf. Peyton Manning face anyone?

Peyton

Just for kicks, I’ll throw in Seattle (+8) and the over covering not winning, San Diego (+9) and the under covering not winning and Dallas (-7.5) and the over.
