Keep It Classy

20130419-052901.jpg

Yesterday Toucher and Rich played the audio of the video I posted yesterday, it still gave me goose bumps.

It did get me thinking of how the Sox would handle the game tonight. I tried calling Felger and Mazz but couldn’t get through. Around 10:45 the thought still swirling in my head as I was driving home from watching the Sox, I called the Adam Jones show on The Sports Hub.

My statement and question was simple. The Anthem at the Bruins game seemed so organic and real; how are the Red Sox and more specifically Uncle Larry and Dr Charles going to handle Friday night at Fenway.

Jones said its not a competition and they’ll handle it with grace and class.

But it’s Uncle Larry. He doesn’t want to be outshined. I find it hard to believe that whatever is planned tonight (they’re dropping the flag on the Monster, that’s confirmed) won’t come off as insincere even if it’s not intentional.

Hearing stories related to this tragedy has given me hope with humanity. Strangers’ acts of kindness to other strangers has been great. Here’s hoping the Sox keep that going and don’t get hokey.

Inspiring

This was absolutely goose bump inducing. I’m very proud to be a Boston fan and an American.

Random Tuesday News

We’ll start with the hottest team in the NHL, your Boston Bruins. The faced off last night against the top seed in the Eastern Conference, the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Bruins did what they’ve done the previous three games, they won. In fact the Bruins haven’t lost a game outright since October. They’re 14-0-1 in their last 15 games with their only loss coming in a shootout on Causeway Day.

The Bruins look to continue their winning ways tonight as they travel to Winnipeg to play the Jets.

The Celtics rumor I told you about last week seems to still have some legs. Although Chris Paul has said he’d prefer to go to New York and wouldn’t sign with Boston it’s not keeping the Celtics out of the running. Even though Danny came out and said they don’t want to trade Rondo, stories persist that a deal is still being worked on. Expect the Knicks to end up with Paul when all is said and done but it’s still fun to dream big as a Celtics fan.

The Terry Francona for Bobby Valentine deal was finalized yesterday as ESPN announced that Terry Francona would be joining their Sunday night baseball crew, replacing the departed Valentine. I’m so looking forward to Francona’s Gruden-esque takes. Instead of “that guy” we’ll hear about how “special” each player is. Start the drinking game now. One drink “special”, on drink every time Tito says “kid”. Drunk by the second inning.

Finally speaking of Sox, the winter meeting are going on right now and the team is looking to bring back David Ortiz as their priority this week. Since the league will be testing for HGH, do we really think that it’s the best idea to bring back a 36 year old DH that had a *ahem* “resurgence” last year. Just saying, if he tests positive you lose him for 50 games.

Personally I’m hoping the team makes some trades. The fires burning from September’s collapse have started to smolder and with the Bruins and Pats to keep people occupied, their anger as dwindled. Mine hasn’t. I still want Beckett dealt. I want the team to go after Mark Buehrle. He eats innings and doesn’t get hurt. Beats bringing back a 45 year old distraction in Wakefield.

Puppet Ben has a lot of work to do. He’s already missed out on Jose Reyes. It’s not likely they’re going after Fielder or Pujols. So any big moves would have to come via trade. That’s if Uncle Larry let’s him make trades.

Back tomorrow with more news and notes.

Odds And Ends

So finishing off another Netflix I flipped over to watch the Sox.

Who did I see? Craig Hansen!

No not Hanson. Hansen. You remember him. The rookie phenom that was rushed through the system and premiered in the majors the same year he signed. Well, that was 2005 (6.00 ERA), we saw him a couple times in 2006 (2-2 6.63 ERA) before he spent all of last season in turmoil in Pawtucket (3-1 3.86 ERA in 40 games).

The time in Pawtucket seems to have done him some good as he dominated with a .073 average against and a neat 0.00 ERA this year and earned him a call up. Well, apparently he’s not that good, when I tuned in I saw him give up a solo shot to the Angels.

Then it dawned on me, I’m missing the Celtics!

Didn’t miss too much as the C’s are already up 15 and it’s almost the half, let’s see what the Sox are up to.

Still losing 5-4.

So while I have a moment. Pacman to the Pats, won’t happen, he’s a Cowboy now. All it cost the Cowboys was a 4th round pick, or two. If he’s reinstated this year, just this years pick, if reinstated next year Tennessee gets both.

Celts up 10 at the half.

So what’s up with this “flu” going through the Sox? Varitek is on what feels like a week off, Delcarmen was sent home yesterday and Dice-K was scratched from his start Wednesday night. Seriously, you’re the fucking Red Sox with more money that God, you can’t afford to give your guys flu shots? Ridiculous!

Sticking with the Odd and Ends theme. Can I have the Isiah Thomas job with the Knicks? Seriously, you get paid millions of dollars to do nothing. The guy gets fired as GM, then head coach, and he’s now not allowed to talk to any players but still collect his millions? I’ll do it for half the cost.

I love how Mike Bibby came out and said that all the Celtics fans are Bandwagon Fans. Um, this writer has been on board the whole time shithead. I rocked my C’s cap all of last year (when you’d expect badwagon fans to go into hiding) including St Patty’s and Causeway Days without batting an eyelash. Great that the fans were all over him booing him every time he touched the ball.

Kendrick Perkins had a great reaction to Bibby. “He said that? I mean, coming off a 2-for-10 night shooting, he would say something like that. … We’ve got the best fans in the world, so we don’t expect other players from other teams to like our fans.”

Is rape is legal in Atlanta? All Tommy was complaining about during the broadcast how the Hawks were getting away with all kinds of hacking and pushing. I guess it could be true. Ray Lewis got away with murder, literally, in Atlanta. Someone should tell the officials we’re in Boston. Should make for interesting games on Saturday and Monday.

C’s up 19 let’s check on the Sox again. Oooh, down 6-4, two out, bottom of the 9th with Little Dusty up to bat. Rips a foul ball and then grounds out to third. Look they won six in a row, we knew it wouldn’t last all season.

So Lowell, Dusty, and Ortiz were at the Celtics Sunday night, front row right behind the net. So if they’re playing tonight who gets those seats? I’m sure me, The Guy and Eli or Matty could find our way to the Garden. Just saying.

The Celts finish off the Hawks, but not without Mike Bibby really hearing it from the fans in the 4th with “Overrated,” “Where is Bibby?” and just straight up boos when he was near the ball. Doc kept the starters in their most of the 4th in a move eerily similar to the Belichick “F-You!”

C’s win by 19, 96-77. 2 down, 14 to go.

John McClane in the house for the C’s tonight and stayed the whole game. Good for him.

Big draft preview coming at you for Friday. Brace yourself, I have an ESPN Insider subscription and have been following this stuff since that shitty day in February.

Da Guy’s Great Point

For those of you who missed my National League Preview, you probably missed this comment from Day Guy:

Why Boston doesn’t have an NL team? There is more than enough basball love in this town for two. If Bob Kraft bought the Nationals, I’d be first in line for the $10 tix and pitchers that hit.

Can I just say that I would be right next to Mr. Madden in those $10 seats watching pitchers hit. The ownership of the Red Sox has made it abundantly clear that there’s no chance in hell that we’re ever getting a New Fenway. It’s OK for NY to build a New Yankees Stadium and every other team in the fucking league except the Cubs to get a new stadium (that’s right, Pittsburgh has a new stadium and finish in last like it’s their job) but the Sox can’t?

Fuck that shit.

John Henry, take some of your fucking hedge fund wealth and invest in getting the Sox a new ballpark. Don’t get me wrong, the new ownership has made Fenway a much nicer place than it was even 5 years ago but seriously the whole fucking season is sold out in like 3 hours. Meaning all the stupid pink hats and drunk, asshole college punks who have time to waste in the bullshit “virtual waiting room” get to go to games.

Meanwhile Stubhub, Ace Tickets and the scalpers are moving into giant mansions off all the money they’re getting by raping the fans on inflated tickets, like $200 bleacher seats. Again Fuck You! God forbid you want to see an interleague game or a Yankee game. That same $200 seat, again in the bleachers, is now $1050.

So would I welcome a National League franchise to Boston. You bet your sweet ass I would. It beats my fat ass squeezing into a grandstand seat at Fenway that I paid $420 for, against the Rays, only to look at the bleachers or hurt my neck looking at home the whole time all the while eating my knees that are cramped on the seat in front of me. That of course is if my seat isn’t behind a pole. All the while trying to jockey for arm space on the 14″ wide seats.

Thank God for Hi-Def TV. Now I can watch the game on my big screen, root for my team that has an extremely crowded bandwagon (where were you in 1994 when I was walking up and buying Sox tickets to see them against the Mariners and a young Ken Griffey when the Kingdome roof caved in? Oh not born? Fuck you too) and when the game is over I don’t have to fight the same drunk pink hat retards into the overcrowded stank Green Line.
