I promised a weekend full of sports with playoff action for the Bruins and Celtics in Friday’s post and they didn’t disappoint, too much anyways.
We’ll start in reverse order.

The Bruins were in Montreal last night for game three of their series. Well, they were down 0-2 after a loss Saturday night and looked awful on Saturday. They came out and scored 3:11 into the game as David Krejci stuffed it home. This was on the heals of the Bruins having yet another playoff penalty when they had too many men on the ice. Horton added to the scoring as he hit one off the back of Price to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Quickly into the second they added their third goal and I get the impressions, they took their foot of the accelerator. It was funny listening to Jack Edwards say, “The last time the Bruins had a 3-0 lead was….I’m sorry there was a technical issue there that prevented me from finishing that sentence.”
Well, he didn’t finish it but it had to be in everyone’s mind.
When it was 3-2 with about 15 minutes left in the third you had to be on the edge of your couch. I was. The Bruins held on adding an empty netter to score the win 4-2 and get on the series scoreboard. Now down 1-2 they’ll head to Lake Placid for a few days to channel the 1980 US Olympic team, before playing in Montreal again on Thursday (why the extra day off?).
Before that the Sox won on Patriot’s Day. It actually was their third win in a row after a loss in the series opener against the Blue Jays on Friday. That’s a winning streak. The complete opposite of last year when they lost on Patriot’s Day and were swept by the Rays.
The more important thing was that Matzucrappa was not so crappy. In fact he was stellar. He pitched seven innings of one hit baseball while only walking one batter. So what happened? Did he actually listen to the pitching coach? Actually listen to Francona? Was it having his binky Varitek behind the plate? Honestly at this point, I’m just going to go with a fluke. He’s pitched well against Toronto in his career. If he keeps it up, great, but I’m not holding my breath.
Before the Sox game completed there was a Boston marathon record for the men as Geoffrey Mutai ran the race in a record 2:03:02. It’s a course and world record however since the course is aided by downhill slope and tailwind it doesn’t count as a world record.
Congrats to my Goon friends (see the link to the right) who killed it at 3:08:37 (Thor) 3:09:52 (Jay) and 3:16:56 (Gina). Thinking that next year I may run the race. I’ll need a charity bib though because I won’t be running a 3:05 qualifying run.
Finally the Celtics played an incredible back and forth game Sunday night as they won it on a Ray Allen three pointer with seconds left in the game. If the series plays like game one, it could go seven games with either team winning. They’re back at it tonight.
