Every year I screw up my brackets. For the last 10 years or so I would take UCONN all the way to the Final Four and typically would pick them to win. But this year I didn’t. I saw their 9-9 mark in Big East play combined with their improbable run in the Big East tournament and figured they’d run out of gas early.
I was wrong. I had UCONN losing to San Diego State and San Diego State heading to the Final Four. Whoops.
So needless to say at the end of last weekend my brackets were completely busted. I didn’t have one Final Four team correct and from there really didn’t care who won. Sure I was pulling for the winner of the VCU/Butler game to win it all but didn’t think it was realistic. Then the Sportscenter type folks over the weekend started saying that Butler actually had a chance to beat UCONN in Monday’s Final.
Well, Butler – in their second straight NCAA Final – came out and shot a bag of crap. They ended the night shooting 18% for the game. I don’t think you’re going to win too many games shooting that poorly. They had a slim three point lead at the half but that evaporated in the second half when they were outscored 34-19.
But like the headline reads, I missed it. I stayed with the Bruins up to a 3-0 lead (that they blew in the final four minutes of the game) and then exhaustion took over and like an old man, I was in bed at nine. Oh well.
Sox and Indians or Celtics and Sixers tonight. I’ll be flipping.
