Doc Deal DOA

20130619-052817.jpg

It was on, it was off, then it was dead.

It went from Bledsoe, Jordan, and Griffin on the first reports to just Jordan and a couple first rounders. The Celtics backed off Bledsoe and were looking for two first round picks for Doc. The Clippers balked at the second first round pick, and that killed the deal.

KG, you were almost in LA. The fact the Celtics were going to get anything for him was pretty amazing. Two firsts for arguably the best coach in the NBA, one players WANT to play for; doesn’t seem to high a price tag.

But supposedly the deals now dead. Do the now beaten Celtics call th Nets and tell them they can talk to Doc? Oh, that’s right, they already hired Jason Kidd as their coach.

I’m not blaming Danny on this particular deal, but he should have blown up this team two years ago. Now it seems the fans will be the ones suffering.

The End Is Near

20130617-051923.jpg

No, not This Is The End, the hysterical Seth Rogan movie that opened this past weekend. I’m talking about the Doc Rivers and LA Clippers courtship.

The original rumor of Blake Griffin coming to Boston is gone, so Stephen A Smith had that part wrong. But the Celtics and Clippers working out a deal that in the end has Doc Rivers coaching the Clippers is very alive.

There’s a few snags.

Like I said Blake Griffin is out. Now the proposed deal would be Kevin Garnett and either Jason Terry or Courtney Lee to Los Angeles with DeAndre Jordan and a first round pick back from the Clippers. The Celtics want Eric Bledsoe in that deal and the Clippers are balking. The Clippers want to hang on to Bledsoe because they think they can use him as a chip to package him and Griffin to the Lakers in a sign and trade for Dwight Howard.

I’m all for trading Garnett. And releasing Pierce while we’re at it. But I want Bledsoe in this deal. Simply for the fact I’m trading Rondo as soon as it goes through. Rondo is really the only chip you have after Garnett and Pierce are off the books. If you can package Lee or Terry (whoever doesn’t go in the Clippers trade) with Rondo you’ve officially put yourself back in the lottery and can start rebuilding.

If I’m the Celtics I’m holding out for Bledsoe. You get him, you let Doc go.

But please, DO NOT bring in Vinny DelNegro to replace Doc. I don’t want him.

So Long?

20130531-052715.jpg

I feel like I’ve written the “Danny Blow It Up” column a half dozen times at this point. Yet it still hasn’t happened.

There was my post a little while back about the Doc Rivers to the Clippers rumor too. A different incarnation but really the same post; Danny blow it up.

Now the rumors persist that Paul Pierce will be bought out. I love it. But that’s only th first domino to fall. KG has to follow.

Here’s what I see.

Pierce is bought out and bummed. But he talks to KG who doesn’t want to play unless Pierce is playing. So the agents and Danny figure a good signing amount for Pierce that works with the Clippers cap. Then they do a sign and trade while letting Doc out of his contract to go with them. Then Danny works out the Griffin trade I want.

That same scenario would work if they bought out Pierce and KG retired. Start your rebuild. At that point you cold even fire Danny and let Doc be the president, GM, and coach.

As we saw with the Bruins post Jumbo Joe, it needs to get really bleak. You need to be in a very bad place. Only then can you rise up and back to greatness.

Here’s really hoping the Celtics are going to finally pull that trigger.

Make It Happen Danny

Bruins playoff hockey win and I opt for a Celtics post, I know, I know.

I also know it’s only Stephen A Smith reporting it, but I love the rumor:

Celtics get:
Blake Griffin
Eric Bledsoe
Caron Butler

Clippers get:
Kevin Garnett
Paul Pierce
Doc Rivers

No offense to Ed Macauley but I’d let Griffin wear 22 if he wants it.

Sure in this scenario the C’s lose Doc but they get young. Griffin, in my opinion, is a beast. I’d love if Danny could make this happen.

But who would coach?

Who cares. Let one of Doc’s assistants take the reigns.

Amnesty Butler, trade Rondo for a big. This opens a lot of scenarios.

Bottom line; I don’t want to see this old, decrepit Celtics team ever on the parquet again. Bye KG, thanks for the memories. Bye Pierce and Doc, same thing.

Bring in Phil Jackson to coach and blow everyone’s minds. Just please, no more of “the band back together.”

Everyone Wins

20130502-054704.jpg

Heading into last night I had the Celtics losing, the Sox probably winning, and then hoping the Bruins would win too. I love it when I’m wrong.

The Bruins came back after going down very early. I was pessimistic. Then the B’s tied the score, took the lead, and for the first time in months played 60 minutes of hockey. Their top line actually showed up as well and this too was the first time in months.

Admittedly I’m one of the people that would trade Krejci to shake things up. No more. He’s proven again and again how good a center and facilitator he is.

And it was in that 60th minute that Jack Edwards informed me that the Celtics and Red Sox also won.

Wow.

I didn’t think the Celtics had a chance. JR Smith back in the fold, I figured he was the reason the C’s won Sunday. They pulled off the upset. I say upset because I thought after last Friday they were primed for a sweep.

And the Sox won.

All around a great day.

I’ll be in AZ for Big Jeff’s wedding this weekend. So no updates till Tuesday. Watch Twitter for random updates @jaylizotte .
