A Letdown?

The Sox had three options heading into the trade deadline yesterday:

  • Be buyers: Add pieces to make a “run”.
  • Be sellers: Admit defeat on the season and sell off parts
  • No nothing.

So I’ll preface everything with this; had the Sox traded away the farm trying to get players to make a “run” you’d be more pissed right? I know I would.

The Red Sox did essentially nothing yesterday. Their major move was moving Scott Podsednik and Matt Albers to the Diamondbacks for left specialist Craig Breslow.

In a very cool stat Podsednik is actually the all time Red Sox leader in batting average with a minimum of 70 at bats. His .387 places him at the top of the list above Rudy Pemberton at .346 and Ted Williams at .344.

The move didn’t even register a blip on my radar. I guess the good news is that Franklin Morales can move back into the rotation where he was doing well. And they’ll likely need him as Beckett, who wasn’t traded, was hurt yet again last night. I don’t know if you saw the article on my Facebook, but check this one out. Beckett is a dick!

Back to the trades. The team also finally threw in the towel on Lars Anderson. His buy sell time was probably four years ago. Since then he’s never done anything. The got back AA pitcher Steven Wright, a knuckleballer from Cleveland.

And on that note, let’s watch some Steven Wright highlights:

Now all of a sudden the trade deadline doesn’t look too bad. Because I’m laughing. Laughing at what a joke this franchise has become in less than a decade. From bold moves in 2004, building and incorporating their own young guys to win again in 2007, to turning into the early 2000′s Yankees. Buying free agents that don’t help you win anything and saddle you with untradable contracts.

It’s called Red Sox.

Bring on the Pats!
