Rerun – Worst Sports Day Ever

I ran this column last year the day after the MLB All Star game but couldn’t help myself to not run it again (With some minor alterations)…

In my lifetime I’ve seen the Red Sox lose the World Series, ALCS, and more ALDS than I care to remember. I’ve seen the Pats lose four Super Bowls (two to inferior Giants teams). I’ve seen the Bruins bow out of the playoffs year after year and of course we’ve seen the Celtics lose a game seven of the NBA Finals after leading most of the game.

Sure all of those instances sucked but we got over it. They strengthened our devotion as fans. Our mantra for so long (before our Decade of Dominance) was “there’s always next year”.

The day after the MLB All Star game. Sport's black hole

Well that’s true but every year there’s the day after the MLB All-Star game. The sports world’s black hole. What’s on the schedule tonight in the major sports? That’s right nothing. Unlike liast year when the MLS dropped the ball they actually have one game on the slate tonight in Canada. Toronto against Vancouver.

Instead the sports today are a full slate of WNBA games, a bunch of tennis matches, and European soccer. Fringe sports that I personally don’t care about.

No sports on TV tonight. All you can find is international soccer.

ESPN like last year takes full advantage of this by broadcasting the ESPYs tonight.

Tomorrow baseball comes back but not in Boston. Sox fans will have to wait another day.

This is painful.
