Another season, another Beckett trip to the DL.
I remember when the Sox traded for him. He’d worn #21 in Florida when he’d played for the Marlins. Of course the number is a sacred cow in Boston as no one had worn it since Clemens left.
The media was all over comparisons of the two. Both power pitchers, “aces”, from Texas etc. Then in Beckett’s first year he was everything we’d hoped.
Go back to the beginning of my blog. I was upset when Beckett lost out to CC Sabathia for the Cy Young. I was legit a fan.
It’s been downhill since.
The blisters…I mean avulsion, lat, now shoulder, every season it’s another injury for this guy.
When you factor in the collapse of last season with the beer and fried chicken, on top of his entitled asshole attitude, and basically you have the most disliked player on the Red Sox.
The most disliked player with 10-5 rights meaning the Sox can’t trade him without his permission.
But come on…
The team is still in last place. They’re just at .500 after struggling to take two of three from the last place Cubs. And font look to be getting better.
Start selling.
Once Beckett is off the DL, trade him. You know he’ll go to Texas or something like that. A contender could use him. Just convince him it’s best for everyone.
Getting him and Youkilis out of town I think will really go someplace as far as improving the team’s likeability and clubhouse attitude.
Thanks for the title in 2007, thanks for the memory. Now see you and your oft-injured self later.
