Too Cool

A couple months back when the Celtics were on the road in Chicago they lost to a Rose-less Bulls team. Doc ripped the team after the game saying that they deserved to lose. They were the “cool” Celtics.

Remember?

It’s OK, I found the quote:

“We were cool tonight. We were the cool Boston Celtics, that’s who we looked like. Walking the ball up [and] we couldn’t get the ball inbounds. No one wanted to work. We were the cool Celtics, and there’s nothing about me that’s cool, I can tell you that. We don’t play basketball cool.”

That’s how I’ve felt in the losses to the Sixers. I know it’s not really the case but it certainly feels that way. They seem to think they just deserve to be in the Eastern Conference Finals with the Heat. The same Heat team that thinks they deserve a trip back to the NBA Finals which is probably why they went down 2-1 to the Pacers prior to tying the series yesterday.

Enough with the privilege and deserving to be in whatever round. Enough.

How about the teams actually go out there and put in the effort so they prove that they deserve to be wherever they are able to get. Earn it. Show that you can beat a Sixers team that had no business being in this round if it weren’t for a freak Jalen Rose injury.

This is it for the Celtics. Great that Garnett has found this fountain of youth at center. Great that there are nights that Pierce looks like he’s 24 again. But with his injuries, Allen’s injury, and Bradley’s injury this team is beat up. They need to go out and win tonight, win game six, and get some rest.

If this team is able to get that extra day off and somehow Indy pushes it to seven. That should help this Celtics team. But blowing huge leads and letting teams take the game in the final two minutes of the game won’t help you win shit.

Close out the game. Foot on the throat. If you have them on the ropes down 18, keep the focus and try and double that. Remember game six back in 2007 against the Lakers? They were up 20 and tried to double that. They need that attitude. Not the “cool” Celtics. Leave “cool” in the dressing room.
