I mean it wasn’t all the way terrible. I was in Lowell on Friday night and saw a very exciting UMASS Lowell game that went into overtime and forced a third game Sunday. See Lowell lost Thursday night 5-3 and needed to come back on Friday night to keep their Hockey East hopes alive. They did that but ended up losing on Sunday.
I don’t know if you still say alma mater if you didn’t graduate, but I’ll use it anyways. My alma mater was good for the first time in years. Like really good. Like 7th in the nation good. So, even though they were ousted early in the Hockey East tournament, the team should have an NCAA berth in the Frozen Four for the first time since 1996.
Unfortunately the pro game didn’t offer anything better.
Saturday I was watching the Bruins over at Buffalo Wild Wings and watched the team come out flat against the Capitols and never recover. They managed to score right before the end of the first period to make it 2-1. Then came out and tied the game close to the start of the second you’d hoped that they were back on track. Nope. They gave up two more to the Caps and trailed 4-2 going into the third. A late goal made it 4-3 but that was it. Bruins lose and head to Pittsburgh for a Sunday showdown against a Sid-less Penguins team on NBC.

That didn’t prove to be much better. In fact Thomas was pulled from the game after giving up three goals in the first period. That gave Marty Turco his Bruins debut. But all indications that morning were that Turco was going to start. What happened? I guess I shouldn’t listed to the local news for my sports takes…
Anyways, Lowell dumped out of Hockey East play and the Bruins slumping down the stretch. A bad hockey weekend indeed. Here’s hoping Lowell gets that NCAA berth and the Bruins find themselves before they slip too far down the playoff standings.
