Done Drinking The Kool Aid

I apologize to all my friends and readers. I didn’t realize how much of an absolute yahoo homer I’d become.

I’ll explain.

For all that I watch Comcast Sportnight and laugh at Dickerson and Tanguay for being Celtics footy pajama wearing clowns, I didn’t realize until I was suffering through an embarrassment of a loss in Pittsburgh yesterday that I am the epitome of being a Patriots homer. Regardless of how bad they got blown out by the Ravens and Jets at home in the playoffs, regardless of how bad their defense continues to suck, I was always on board that Belichick would right the ship and all is wel.

But I had a realization yesterday while watching that suckfest of a game. The Patriots haven’t done shit since 2007. Sure they had the undefeated regular season that year but that was the first of the last three consecutive playoff losses.

They continue to draft poorly. Sure they have some decent picks like the tight ends and Mayo but there have been way more misses than hits.

“But Belichick is a genius.”

Yeah a genius on the coaching side when he has Romeo and Weiss there with him. Since then he’s more like Superman with a giant bowl of kryptonite every morning for breakfast.

Don’t mistake my criticisms as hatred for the franchise or team. It’s not. I’m just tired of drinking the Kool Aid. Belichick CAN do wrong, has done a lot of wrong in recent memory and needs to start hearing some calls of accountability.

Some things I don’t understand just from this week:

Why did you release Leigh Bodden? OK, I understand that McCourty is your number one CB but Bodden wasn’t washed up. I have to think he’s better than the scrubs you still have on the team you intend to replace him with.

Kevin Faulk? Yeah, that’s a question. I get that he’s been a hard worker and part of the team forever but at the same time, he’s 35. Mine as well be 50. So not only do you let him come off the PUP but you start him and gameplan most of your game around him. Why? There are such better options on the roster that the team should have let him retire.

So again, I’m not giving up my fan card. I’m still a fan. Still like the Pats but I’m done drinking the Kool Aid. I will question things like above and preach to my friends and readers that Belichick isn’t infallible and needs to be called out.
