Tonight the Bruins begin their defense of their Stanley Cup Championship. They’ve already had their ring ceremony in a red carpet event the other night at the Boston Harbor Hotel. So what’s left?
Raising the banner of course.
Now you’ll hear people saying “raising the banner for the first time in over 30 years”. Well, being a stickler for details, how did they get up there when the teams moved to the then Fleet Center? I figure they were raised. So they should be careful of their phrasing. Just saying.
But tonight is going to be a celebration of an incredible Bruins season last year. I really can’t wait to see everything. They’re going to surprise us with some of the ceremony before the game right? They have to.
Who will actually raise the banner? Will they have Chara do it since he was the captain of the team that won it? Will the owners do it? Cam the team president, Claude the coach, Chiarelli the architect?
What about the anthem? The Sox brought in the BSO to play the anthem after they won their first World Series in 86 years. But how can you not have Rene sing the anthem? He’s an institution at the Bruins.
All I know is that I’m going to DVR the entire thing and chances are I’m not going to delete it for a long time.
Oh and they’re playing a hockey game too, against the Flyers. The same Flyers team that they beat in the Eastern Conference semis before taking on Tampa in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Hockey is back and I’m excited.
