We’ll start with my favorite of the notes from yesterday which actually started on Wednesday. As predicted by me on these very pages two short weeks ago.
Yes! Dice-K needs to have Tommy John surgery.
So to recap, he still hasn’t gone under the knife. The recovery time for the surgery is 12-14 months. Even if we take the shorter time table, he would still not be ready to pitch in 12 months. No way. He’d need extended Spring Training, plus several rehabilitation starts down on the farm before he’d be able to make a start on the major league club.
Then there’s his agent Scott Boras. You think that Boras is going to rush his client back in the last year of his contract with the Sox? Why would he? He’s already been paid on that contract. Why not push him to slow his rehab and then sign an incentive laden huge deal for 2013 with a new team (I pray a new team. Please Theo don’t bring this piece of crap back in the mix once his contract is up).
So as I said yesterday we can only hope that this is truly a sayonara to Matzucrappa. This makes me smile. I’m really happy knowing he likely pitched his last game ever for the Sox.
And speaking of last games in Boston…

“Shamrock” aka “The Big Shamrock” aka Shaq finally announced his retirement which many could argue happened a year too late. I’m not saying when he played that he hurt the Celtics the issue is that he didn’t play.
I don’t know what drugs Danny Ainge was on when he traded Perk thinking an aging Shaquille O’Neal would be the solution at center for a late season and playoff run.
Personally I think in his prime he was one of the most dominant centers the sport has ever seen. Certainly top five center of all time.
He just happened to play a year too long. I understand why he chose the Celtics. He wanted to go out a champion. The Celtics certainly looked to have one more run in them following last season’s finals appearance but they couldn’t get past the loaded Miami team.
Goodbye from Boston to both of you. Shaq’s already left as he is announcing his retirement from his home in Orlando. Dice-K apparently was in Boston yesterday. I’ll personally drive him and his family to the airport. I’ll even carry his bags to the terminal for him. So long as he gets the hell out of Boston.
Big Bruins game on tap tomorrow night. Hopefully Thomas plays out of his mind again and steals a road win for the B’s. Back Monday with a recap.
