The Sky Is Falling

Really?

I’m listening to sports radio on my way home yesterday and heard a caller into the post game show, “I predicted this team would finish in third place this season and this weekend proved it.”

“This new catcher has no idea how to call a game. It’s his fault the pitchers were so lit up. Varitek needs to be in there.”

“Francona is the reason they finished in third last season and he’s the reason they’ll lose this year too.”

Again. Really? Jeez…

Let me save you some suspense. The sky isn’t falling, Francona is a good manager, Saltalamacchiia will be fine and this isn’t a third place team.

The bottom line is that the Rangers are the defending American League Champions. They’re not some third rate piece of crap team like the Royals or the Mariners. They’re a legit team and if you read Friday I already told you I predicted the Rangers to win the west.

What I didn’t expect was to see the Sox giving up the long ball as much as they did. Sure you knew the Rangers could mash but I thought the Sox pitching staff was going to keep them somewhat in check. That clearly didn’t happen.

Look the bottom line is that there’s still 159 games to go. Anyone basing their opinion on the Sox this early is an idiot and when they’re in the playoffs, I don’t want anyone letting them on the bandwagon. Make your bed and lie in it. If you’re really writing off a team three games into the season, you’re sticking with that for the rest of the year. Don’t come back when they’re reeling off wins. Seriously, the Orioles are in first place and both the Sox and Rays haven’t won a game yet.

Does anyone really think that’s going to last? Didn’t think so (sorry Orioles fans).

So pay attention to the Bruins who just won the Northeast Division and are gearing up for the playoffs. Pray that the Celtics big men will get healthy and come back (never take them on the second night of a back to back if you’re betting) for a post season run. By the time the Bruins and Celtics are done, you’ll come back to ses the Sox comfortably in the driver’s seat in the AL East.
