With the season hanging in the balance the Red Sox relied on their $100 million dollar (posting fee included) prized 2006 off season free agent pitcher.
You got it. The craptastic one. Diasuke Matzucrappa. And oh how craptastic was his performance too.
Eight runs in four and two thirds innings. Great job. Way to step it up in a big game when your team needed you.
I guess the good news is that the team won’t have to rush to pitch Buchholz on short rest tonight. Nope, they can really just lay back and let the division and the rest of the league take a big dump on their chest because the season is officially over.
Sure there are the folks who will argue that the team isn’t mathematically eliminated but let me save you the suspense O-V-E-R. Thanks for coming out.
Get ready to see all the rest of the cast of the Pawtucket Red Sox (not like we haven’t most of this season in the outfield anyway). The pitchers will likely get their turns in the rotation like Hansack did in 2006 but this season is done. I hope the sellout streak ends and that Toronto catches them for third place.
A fourth place team with the second highest payroll in all of baseball. It’s called Red Sox.
