Ten straight losses had me writing the eulogy. No chance the Bruins would turn anything around, they were dead in the water. Then they lost out on the Kovalchuk sweepstakes and I thought the season was over. Trade Thomas and start building for next season and seasons to come.
Well, something happened. They started winning. It started with a couple shootout losses, but they were getting points. Now they’ve won three in a row and have climbed from out of the playoff picture and into the eight seed. The thing that sucks is that they finally caught fire as the team is about to take two weeks off for the Olympic break.
I watched last night as the team went out to a 4-0 lead in the first. They went up 5-0 in the second as Lucic got his second of the game and you thought, they got this. Well with about five minutes left in the period they gave up a goal and right before the period ended, a second.
OK, no shutout for Tuukka but a three goal lead with 20 minutes to play, seems pretty good. Halfway through the period Tampa made it a two goal game and with about three minutes left made it a one goal game. What the hell happened? Well, part of it was the officials maybe feeling bad for the Lightning and giving some questionable calls. After 21 shots in the first period, the Bruins managed just 15 in the next two. Oh well. A win is a win.
So for all that I was talking about trading Thomas, I’m sticking by my guns. The team has gotten points in it’s last five games all games that Tuukka started. I say Tuukka starts Saturday as well and you try and deal Thomas while he’s in Canada playing for Team USA. I know they can’t make the deal, but they can, and just announce it after the break.
We’ll wait and see.
