Hoping For Winter Team Deals

So many rumors swirling, so little time. But we’ll try and get to a few of them today.

We’ll start with the Bruins. Rumors out of Toronto yesterday were that the Bruins were shopping Tim Thomas. One purposed landing spots was Chicago. Now Thomas does have a no trade as part of his huge contract he signed in the off-season so the B’s would need him to waive it, but what a huge relief it would be to get the big contract off the books. Tuukka has proven the past few games that he’s ready to be “the man” in between the pipes. Let’s hope this deal is more fact than rumor.

The second big rumor was for the Celtics. Rumor has them trading Big Baby Glen Davis to the Bobcats in exchange for D.J. Augustin. The straight player for player swap doesn’t work money wise, but there’s interest on both sides. The Celtics are looking for a backup for Rondo and apparently Charlotte is in need of a big man. I don’t think Danny is ready to stand pat with the team as constructed but I also don’t think this would be the only deal.

The other rumors are still circulating around Ray Allen. The only Big Three player to play every game this season does have an expiring deal and rumors have the Celtics shopping him. The problem that Danny Ainge is running into is that he’s not getting younger value back in return on the purposed deals. At this point I would put the likelihood of Allen getting traded at 10%.

So with about a week or two before everyone starts getting Red Sox fever again, the teams on Causeway Street are at least putting themselves in the conversation as the trading deadline looms. Let’s hope the GM’s pull the trigger and as Da Guy likes to say, “SHAKE IT UP!!!!”.
