Well there was a little announcement over at Fenway yesterday and it was probably the worst kept secret in the history of the NHL.
Yup, the Bruins and Flyers are going to be playing this year’s NHL Winter Classic. Now originally I thought what an awesome idea this is and how I’d get my buddy JC to get me a badge to sneak into the game but then I thought about it a little more.
I’m not a small man. In fact, I’m pretty fat. Now, as a fat man it’s pretty much impossible for me to sit comfortably at Fenway Park unless I’m up in the Richie Rich seats (which I’ve never sat in mind you). Now I’m going from watching baseball in the summer in shorts and a tee shirt to the winter classic where I’m probably wearing my ski clothes. Ski clothes in a grandstand seat at Fenway? Not fucking likely.
The presentation will be awesome and I’m sure the Sox owners will market the shit out of it and sell every possible square inch of Fenway to advertisers (“You’re sitting in the Bob’s Discount Furniture Bleacher section 37″). So for the awesomeness that it represents I’ll be home on the couch watching this one, or maybe venture out to a bar. Bottom line, not freezing my fat ass off at Fenway to watch outdoor hockey.
I’ll be sitting there with you. Likley with an enormous hangover from the night before, but ready to restart the action again…
Did you hear about the pre-game? BU vs. BC also on the Fenway floor. Its gonna be fun, but there is NO FUCKING WAY I’m gonna sit out in the cold, watching my beer freeze, pissing myself just to keep warm….
