Happy Opening Day (Maybe)

I know I’ve ranted on this multiple times but here we go again. Opening Day is scheduled for a 2:05PM start today and we’re also scheduled to get a whole bunch of rain.

How do you know we’re getting a boat load of rain?

I watch the weather. Apparently no one in the Fenway office does. We’ve known since Thursday and Friday last week that today was going to be a rainy sloppy mess. You think that they’d call the game and just make it up tomorrow when there’s no threat of rain (the schedule makers put that buffer day there for a reason)?

Nope.

Instead they open the gates, get parents to spend $100 before they even get to a seat on crap for the kids. They have the drunk college frat boys pony up for beer after beer. Did we mention the $50 parking? So in essence you drop $100 plus for seats, another $50 or so for parking, $50 for pregame beers at a local bar, then another $30 before you get to your seat on beer. Then they call the game after you wait in the rain for an hour and spend another $30 on beer and food.

So you’ve dropped about $250+ and now the game in canceled. It’s OK, you get to do it again tomorrow. That’s right, in the course of two days you’ll drop around $400 to see one game and you don’t get as much as a free hot dog.

Here’s hoping that the rain can hold off, but it’s not looking likely. So like the headline says, Happy Opening Day, Maybe.
