Well, not technically. Technically Youk was hurt even before he went to the WBC, but he wanted to play for his country so bad that he risked further injuring himself so he could play for his country.
I’m all for National Pride and all, but I said long ago that I wasn’t a fan of the WBC and now with the right half of our infield hurt because of their association with the WBC, it just solidifies those feelings. Opening Day is two weeks from Monday. Hopefully that’s enough time for these guys to get healthy and ready for the first day of the season.
I don’t know if anyone’s looked at the Sox schedule for the start of the season, but it sucks. They open against Tampa at Fenway on April 6th at 2:05. A night game Wednesday and another matinee at Fenway on Thursday at 1:05. Then they fly out to the west coast. Basically we won’t get to enjoy steady baseball at normal times until Patriot’s Day weekend. Awful. Who designs this stuff?
Back Monday I’m thinking with my American League preview column. Followed by the National League on Tuesday, but who knows. Like I said, I have two weeks till Opening Day and everyone knows you don’t have to pick until Opening Day.
