Kind of short and sweet today. After the B’s got shut out I’m not really too gung ho to write a column today.
Well, keeping with the free agent Pats theme, the Pats sign another free agent yesterday. This time they sign cornerback Leigh Bodden to help bolster their defensive backfield.

Here’s the ESPN.com scouting report:
Before being traded to Detroit this past offseason, Bodden had been the Browns’ best cornerback over the past few seasons. He had a down season in 2007, but when on top of his game and playing at full strength, he is a force. Bodden has yet to play a full 16 game season and durability is clearly a major concern. He is a very good tackler, however, and he plays the run well, which translates well for his future in the Lions’ Cover 2 scheme. He also jams receivers at the line of scrimmage effectively with quick, short and powerful blows with his hands. He is a fluid athlete who can turn and run with most wideouts. He is very fast for a bigger corner and loses little speed in transition. He can be overly aggressive at times and needs to stay more disciplined, as he sometimes glances into the backfield. If he can stay healthy, Bodden will rank amongst the top dozen or so cornerbacks in the league today and he should transition well to his new role in Detroit.
Having his best years as a Brown should translate very well for him in a Pats uniform having played in Romeo’s defensive system. With him and Springs in the fold, the back field is looking a lot better than last year.
Looking ahead, the Rams released Orlando Pace the former #1 overall pick. This guy, when healthy, is one of the best in the game. I’d sign this guy and move Matt Light to the other side immediately. Light’s olé technique has proven ineffective and having him on the other side my lengthen his career. Just a thought.
Back tomorrow with who knows what.
