I take zero credit for coming back on board. Stew and Mark have been telling me for weeks to check out the Bruins. After a 7-2 win on Causeway Day I was liking what I saw. Last night I actually tuned in and wasn’t bored in the least. No sooner did I turn the game on that it was 1-0 Bruins. 11 minutes into the game and they were already up 3-0. But who are these Bruins?
A gun to your head and you could probably name two Bruins right? Chara and Thomas. Sounds about right. Following the trade of Joe Thorton it’s been a motley crew that’s been donning the Black & Gold. That was until last year. That’s when the “young guns” got their shot and they haven’t given up or let up since they got that shot.
Phil Kessel (#81): You may remember him as the Bruin that had cancer. What you may not know is that he’s fast. Sneaky fast (thank you Andy Brickley). He’s also leading the Bruins in goals with 17, has five straight games with a goal, nine goals in the last ten games, and 15 straight games with at least a point. Did I mention he’s only 21? Damn.
Marc Savard (#91): Leading the team in points and assists with 24 assists and 32 points. Injuries limited his time last year, but this guy is one of the best in hockey. Consistently in the NHL lead with points and assists. He’s in the third year of a four year deal and is only 31.
Milan Lucic (#17): This guy is everyone’s new favorite. With only seven goals and ten assists you wonder why? It has nothing to do with that. He’s a scrapper. But unlike scrappers the team has had in the past that couldn’t play a lick, this guy can. If I were to get a jersey I think this one would be at the top of my list. And he’s 20.
That’s just a few of these new Bruins. But I’m watching. They’re for real this year. Seven points ahead of the next closest team, the Canadiens. Keep up the good work and I’ll keep watching.
You forgot to add the fact that Phil Kessel looks a little too much like Spencer Pratt for my liking.
And that he has only has one ball!… but I digress…
I could have named like at least 5 Bruins. Neely, Oates, Janney, Bourgue, Sweeney(pick one)
I did watch that game last night, but still have reservations about this team… Until they go far in the playoffs, I ain’t buyin the bandwagon ticket. But it is nice to have hockey back. Just ask the good people of Chicago! They know more than anyone, what its like to suffer from bad ownership and front office!
