Are You Serious?

The Seahawks. Seriously? Seneca Wallace? Deion Branch (no offense Stew) coming back from the dead for two scores and a run after catch that was fucking ridiculous? Seriously?

The Patriots should have destroyed this team. Once again they proved that their defense is old, banged up, slow, and very ineffective. At least for three and a half quarters of football. After the offense put together an impressive drive that was capped off with a Sammy Morris touchdown on fourth and inches, the defense that looked like they would break didn’t. In fact coming out of the two minute warning Brandon Meriweather made up for a day of getting burned in the secondary by strip sacking Johnny Unitas Seneca Wallace to seal the deal. Pats win 24-21 but don’t cover the spread and mess up my Pick ‘em league.

Now the bad news. Tedy Bruschi busted up his knee forcing Junior Seau into action. Bruschi was sent back to New England for further evaluation. Not a good sign when the team is staying on the West Coast. The team is already without Pierre Woods who, rumor has it, broke his jaw against the Steelers. So now the team is relying heavy on a 39 year old who was surfing last week when called to bail out the linebacking corps.

Vince Wilfork also left the game with a shoulder injury in the first quarter. Combine that with the fact that Ty Warren didn’t even play Sunday and your front seven, the reason you can have a “patchwork” secondary, is really hurting too. The secondary was dealt a blow as well when James Sanders left the game in the third quarter with hurt ribs.

All this being said, I know a lot of the injuries are fluke, but at what point does the training and conditioning coach get some of the blame? Obviously there’s no training or conditioning for Brady’s injury, but seriously shouldn’t some of the injuries fall at someone’s feet eventually?

Of course the good news that came out of all of this was that the 49ers helped the Patriots yesterday by knocking off the Jets. That means that the Pats are tied again atop the AFC East. Unfortunately Buffalo didn’t do the Pats any favors and lost at home (well in Toronto) to the Dolphins who are also tied for first. In fact the Patriots are third in this three way tie thanks to their impressive 5-5 record against the conference.

More good news is that the Pats get to play the Raiders (3-10) this week. That’s almost as good as playing the Lions (0-13) or Bengals (1-11-1). In fact the Patriots should beat the snot out of the Raiders. Which means that the Patriots will probably squeak out a win on a last minute field goal. We’ll see.

Back tomorrow with some Red Sox Hot Stove talk.

  1. Do Not Underestimate the Raiders! They are more than capable of running the ball, at will, over this decimated D. And the fraiders D isn’t bad at all… careful Matty Casshole(hes getting better… clearly). And also looking more and more like our old friend Drew! Circa 1993.

I think you may be wearing your pats glasses when u watch these games… this is NOT the team that we are used to seeing week in, week out, systematically dismanteling all that come in their way. This is a team that really, is palying way over their heads. The Lil’ LeBelichick Over-Acheivers!!! They should be 5-8, givin the devistation that has ravaged this team.

Since they’re bringing back all our old friends, why not go find Freddy “Boom Boom”Coleman. I miss calling his name once a month. Or “Hey You! Get off of” Mike Cloud! From…..?… … … (BC) I mean, after this last week, we must have a roster spot or two open… right?

  2. OH!!!

Let us NOT forget dude, lets us NOT forget, the success of your Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics! I mean, holy crap! Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better in sports, in this town, the Bruins find a way to seriously go and kick some hockey ass! Literally!

Now, I admit I haven’t watched all that much… yet… But they are on the remote control radar now. Back from the dead. I no longer just ingore a game on tv, but I still tend to still click over alot. Keep it up B’s. Peeps are catchin on! Including even the biggest Jeremy Jacobs haters, like myself!
