After two great concerts in two nights and my birthday sprinkled in for good measure, I’m back from my little hiatus. Now what’s happened since we last spoke? A lot, so let’s have at it.
Little Dusty signed a contract extension that means that he’ll be donning the Red Sox uniform for the next six or seven years. Six years for $40.5 million and it has additional incentives like his option gets an extra million for every MVP he wins. I think this is a very smart move by the Sox, locking down Dustin while he was still in his “control years” to keep him after he’d be free agent eligible. They did the same thing with Beckett a few years ago and hopefully will do the same thing with Youk and Papelmania soon.
The Sox also introduced Junichi Tazawa. They signed the Japanese amateur to a three year $3.3 million contract. If this guy is close to either Dice-K or Okie-Dokie it will be a bargain. A lot of teams were in the mix for this guy but a phone call from Dice-K pretty much sealed the deal.

The Patriots brought back Rosevelt Colvin this week. After injuries have decimated the linebacking core it seems like a smart move. He already knows the system and in an interview a couple weeks ago, said he’s in playing shape, ready to go, just waiting for the right opportunity. So it’s obvious that the Pats aren’t throwing in the towel and are still trying to compete for an AFC East title. A phone call to a semi-retired Junior Seau had him on a plane from California and should be signing in Foxboro today. He and Colvin should help solidify the decimated defense. It should be noted that the Pats also called Victor Hobson who they cut after training camp but he signed with the Bengals. Clearly winning isn’t something he wants to do.

So overall a good couple days away from the office for me. The Celtics keep on winning and the Bruins won again last night 3-1 against the Lightning. Hockey in Hi-Def, combined with a tough, fighting, and more importantly, winning Bruins team has brought me back. I’m on the Bandwagon with my Bruins jerseys out from the back of the closet. Back Monday with a Pats recap.
I am so happy to hear that the B’s jerseys are back in circulation.
