Rooting To Lose?

So it’s not something I like to think about but have to pose the question anyways; would it be alright if the Patriots lost and didn’t make the playoffs?

new

Look, the Patriots aren’t going to win the Super Bowl this season. I know that on every given Sunday any team can knock off any team, but realistically this defense isn’t going to carry the team through the playoffs. And after watching Matt Cassel look like a deer in headlights Sunday (forcing passes, getting strip sacked), I’m pretty sure he couldn’t carry the team in spite of a lackluster defense.

So if the Patriots don’t make the playoffs, they up their own draft stock. Instead of picking in the late teens or early twenties the team can draft in the low teens and help address some glaring issues. The most glaring issue is a cornerback. I don’t know if they can sign a big ticket free agent, but they clearly need a Ty Law-esque corner from their Super Bowl years. They also need another young linebacker to pair with Mayo. Mayo has been a beast and is likely defensive rookie of the year, to have another young stud back there with him would be awesome.

Hopefully the team gets compensated when Matt Cassel signs with the Eagles next season. It’s speculated to be a sandwich pick in between the third and fourth rounds. While you’re at it, let’s trade Maroney for whatever you can get. It’s clear his sandyvagititus is never going to clear up. That would be two additional picks to maybe package and deal for another first rounder, well late first rounder anyways.

So am I rooting for the Patriots to lose? Never. But would I be upset if they did? Not as much. I’m just thinking of the positive if they don’t make the playoffs. We know when Brady is back next year it’s going to be business as usual.

What are you guys thinking? Still rooting for the playoffs or a better draft pick? Let me know.

I’m kind of with you on this one, I’d love to see them make the playoffs but lets be realistic. They are a bubble team and proably won’t make the playoffs, and I’m fine with that. Had this been a team with a still healthy Brady then I’d have different feelings. I’ll be happy with the pats finishing above .500 this year considering the injuries they have had to deal with.
So I guess I’d rather see the pats get better draft position so they can build for next year, Matty have fun stormin the Cassel is not the answer. We never thought he would be, and we never thought he’d light it up for a few of those games like he did either. When the pats drafted Maroney I was pumped, but after seeing Mr. Glass go down year after year it makes me mad to see his teammate Marion Barber playing like a beast in Dallas. Aside from Reggie Bush, the pats had their choice at any of the avaliable backs. Instead of picking up a reliable solid Honda Civic Si, we picked a Ford Mustang GT. Sure the Mustang has more power, but if you can’t keep the thing on the road what use is it?
So in Summary, ditch Cassel, Maroney, and don’t make the playoffs so we’ll be better equipped for next year.

I’m not even really a Patriots fan, but I wouldn’t count them out of the playoffs yet even though the chances are slim. Half the teams in the league look like bubble teams right now, so who knows what could happen…but despite that I think you’re right that the D won’t be able to shoulder the load in the post season.

Did you think the Pats would win the Superbowl after Bledsoe went down? Now, I am not saying that they would have got there with Bledsoe – nor am I saying that Cassel is as good as Brady. But I am not counting them out – anything is possible. And they are so smart about the draft – getting great players in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, does it really matter if our pick is a few places higher. I think it just costs the team more money. I say play to win. Commit 100% and hope they go all the way.

  5. I say bag it, tag it, wrap it up to go…!

I pretty much gave up, after Tommy went down. I mean, honestly. Did you really have much hope after that?

I’m almost a lil ticked that they didn’t just throw in the towell when it happened… and just give up! LIKE JAY DID in the fantasy league… forcing Big J to put a lockdown on all transactions!

Lets all pray, yes pray. That Thomas “I fuck Giselle” Brady (and Adalius…whatever)is back in full effect, and angry, next year…

In the meantime, HOW BOUT THEM CELTICS AND RUINS!!!!??? Take our minds off the debaucle of the Pats, and the Drunkin Indians…
