With really nothing local to talk about (I’m sure talk radio is still ripping David Thomas & Jabar Gaffney) I’m forced to visit our friends in the national media and get ideas for a column. So I’m left with MLB hot stove which I’m sure we’ll have plenty of this offseason, Monday Night Football (yawn), or my fantasy football team which no one but me really cares about.
The Pistons and the Nuggets made a trade that I heard on the radio on my ride home last night. Allen Iverson to Detroit with Chauncey Billups, Cheikh Samb (who?), and Antonio McDyess to Denver.

So as a fan of Eastern Conference basketball does this scare you? Well, I’ll be honest it doesn’t scare me in the least, if anything it makes the Pistons not as good. You’re telling me that Joe Dumars thinks that Iverson is an improvement over Billups? Really? Billups was the one player that made it a series last year against the Celtics. All indications are the McDyess will be released and Samb was put in there just to make the cap room work for the deal.
Seriously are you surprised anymore when “marquee” players are traded? This Denver team started it’s dismantle over the summer when they dumped Marcus Camby for a second round pick. Now with them dumping Iverson it may just be a matter or time before we see Carmelo Anthony moved as well. How on Earth do you keep your Nuggets (he, he Nuggets) season tickets after that?
Pretty lame column, I understand, but with no Boston news, you have to write something. Back tomorrow with hopefully some local stuff.
