O’s Poop on Clay

Well, at least he made it to the third inning. I mean, he only retired one batter in the third inning before being lifted for “Home Run” Aardsma. Seriously, how many times has Francona brought in this guy and he’s allowed every inherited runner to score? I’d really like to know, because it feels like 3 times this week alone.

This outing cemented Clay’s future with the club this season. I thought it would be a quick ride down 95S to Pawtucket but the team instead decided that Portland would be a better option. How damaged is this kid’s psyche? I wouldn’t be surprised if it were another Craig Hansen and this guy is out of Boston within the next year or so.

At least one cool highlight was seeing Coco (above) fly over the fence trying to catch the three run home run.

Well I’ve said it before and I’ll state my case again. This feels way too much like the 2005 season, a bad hangover season from a World Championship season. The 2005 team was decimated by injuries to the rotation but because of early season wins the team was able to sneak in the playoffs with the Wild Card. Remember when Curt came back early from his injury to close? And sucked?

I really hope that doesn’t mean that our 2009 Red Sox will be like the third place 2006 team. How much did that suck? Getting swept in a 5 game series by the Yankees and finishing behind Toronto. Awful stuff.

Now the Sox are prepping for a series in Toronto against the Jays. You may remember that the Sox haven’t won in Toronto this year. In fact they’ve won a whopping 2 games in domes this season. One in the Tokyo Dome and one in Minnesota. Awful. This could be the series that puts the Sox out of the Wild Card lead and a series against the Yankees in New York could seal the season.

Let’s hope not.
