Sox in Trouble?

Sunday brought bad news for the Sox. Before the game it was announced that Tim Wakefield was going on the 15 day DL with shoulder stiffness. Normally you wouldn’t worry too much, but with Buchholz proving again yesterday that he’s not ready for prime time, this was a serious blow to an already struggling team.

Tim, love the gut

Since the Manny trade the Sox have gone 6-3. But that number is very misleading given the fact that they got to play cupcake teams like Oakland and Kansas City. As soon as an opponent with a record over .500 comes up, they shit the bed.

This team is 16 games over .500 but as soon as they go on the road they’re lost. Eight games below .500 on the road? That’s not a team that’s going far in the post season, especially as a Wild Card team.

With Wakefield going on the shelf and Buchholz struggling mightily the Sox desperately need help with their rotation. It’s rumored that Devern Hansack will take Wake’s spot in the rotation at least on Tuesday. You may remember him as the pitcher that threw an unofficial no-hitter on the last day of the third place, 2006 campaign.

By moving Masterson to the pen, it’s unlikely that the team would move him back in the rotation to replace Buchholz, especially given the fact that he’s helped solidify the shaky bullpen. Colon should be coming back, but when Francona was asked he said, “not anytime soon.”

So this leaves fans hoping they can stay in it long enough for guys to come back from injuries. But when you’re placing your hopes on 300 pound Bartolo Colon and Tim Wakefield to carry your team into that playoffs it’s not a good sign. The team is also rumored to be in the running for Freddy Garcia. The team looked at him in spring training but he wasn’t ready, he’s rumored to be ready now and has about 15 suitors.

All in all it could be worse. We could be rooting for a team 8.5 back that lost it’s young fire baller. As tough as it’s been rooting for the Sox right now, it’s always easier than rooting for the Yankees.

  • Not even a mention of the Olympics? The USA/China game was fun to watch and there were a few other events that were pretty sweet in HD. No love for team USA?

  • Jeff,… The olympics are so lame now, it’s hard to care. When an American, can go “free agent” and play for Russia, because she can’t make the USA team… Bullshit! When A Kenyan can run for the USA… Bullshit! When the USA doesn’t play ANY of “OUR” best baseball players, and settles for 3rd tier players against the rest of the worlds’ best… BULLSHIT!!! Ok then… Oh, and I’m pretty sure watching men’s swimming is for the broads/birds!

Although, I will say, all the murders going on in China, makes it slightly more intreguing. Beheadings and shit, nice job China!
    Back to what matters!

How can Brian Giles vetoe a trade from lowly San Diego (discovered by the Germans in 1904, It means “a whale’s vagina”…) to a contending team like the sox? It tells me he has no desire to win anything.

Giles: “Oh I just think I’ll hang out here in a whale’s vag, while other teams win!” Nobody wants Manny’s attitude, without his ability! FUCK HIM!!!

But these sox fascinate me! I’m not sure which way the tide is going. Sometimes I’m like, “yeah, the Sox’ll finish 3rd in the division” other times they’re world beaters.

I fear the Angels, I no longer fear the Rays(injuries). But watch the fuck out for the Twins! Total underdogs, with momentum! Very dangerous!

    -Sh Sh SHAKE IT UUUUPPPPP!
