So I wrote on Friday about the Jamele Hill’s comments about Hitler and the Celtics. Amazingly this was really swept under the rug by ESPN. She received a 1 week (if that) suspension and went on writing as usual.
Sure enough, it was ESPN that hopped all over the Don Imus story this week.
Here’s the comment.
Are you fucking kidding me?
Then they had the audacity to compare the Don Imus comment to Shaq’s rap and have a poll question as to which was more ofensive.
Again, are you fucking kidding me?
Shaq talked about Kobe eating his ass in a profanity laced “freestyle”. Don Imus said, “What color is he?…Well there you go. Now we know.”
According to the ESPN poll it’s more offensive for someone to ask someone’s race than talk about someone eating your ass in a freestyle that included the word nigger.
Now me, I’m not offended by either one. I support people’s rights to say whatever they want, however when it becomes hypocritical, like Jamele Hill, then I would call for their job.
I just think it’s amazing that ESPN has a staffer that said something way more offensive, in my opinion, than either Don Imus or Shaq yet they were the first ones to go on the attack on Imus.
I don’t listen to Imus, in fact in the 90′s I was a Stern supporter. But I think it’s ridiculous that the media goes after this 100 year old guy. First off no one listens to his show and then these assholes like Al Sharpton who I guarantee has never listened to the show get a clip, they make it their cause.
Look, the bottom line on the whole thing is that ESPN is a sports network. Stop with all the damned fluff pieces (Kobe and his kids anyone?) and the other bullshit. Give me highlights from the game, a complete box score (something they’ve abandoned for a few years now) and maybe a couple interviews with the players after the game. That’s it.
Dude, welcome once again to my Rebel bandwagon.
Nobody, I mean NOBODY listens to Imus, first of all.
Uh freedom of speech my ass secondly. Al Sharpton is a fucking racist(so called reverse racism- whatever the FUCK that is, oxymoron)
Thirdly, Shaq was out of line with that “rap” but he was just having fun, which is obviously not allowed by the media/press or any asshole looking to stir up trouble.(Shaunessey)…
And fourthly, as you will soon realize, espn is has become “A SPORTS TABLOID” looking to stir up any fucking bullshit that they may come accross. (lets keep leading with the spygate thing… dead)
Yeah every now and then they show highlights. With funny, quickwitted anchors. But for the most part, they sick their soldiers on the unfortunate events of real people, doing real people things. We all can’t be as perfect as the reporters who insist on checking these seeingly NORMAL events. I think its time to start reporting on these “reporters”. Lets just see how perfect their lives are! Can anyone say hall monitor? I know you can Tony Maz and Curley Haired Boyfriend!
Hey ESPN… SHAKE IT UP assholes!
Let me say that its important that we see the difference between each situation(I can’t believe this is an issue). Imus + Shaquille were in very different positions- Imus was a ESPN worker at that time + Shaq was just a player that they decided to speak about. When someone who is working for them says something that is obviously racist in meaning- “What race is he?” they have no choice but to respond in a way that is best for their company. On the other end, though I will say that Jamele Hill does concentrate a little more on black pride then I would like her to, she really is not doing it as a form of racist to put others down but instead to bring people up. The people she concentrates on probably should think before they put themselves out there + I would guess that she considers her columns a way to say it.
