Miscellaneous Tuesday

No Celtics game, no job, what’s a guy to do?

Well, I got to watch the US Open yesterday afternoon. A big playoff between Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate. A note to the two of them, don’t wear the same color when it’s only the two of you golfing. I understand that one’s black and one’s white but the red shirt messed me up a couple times yesterday.

I did find myself rooting for Rocco. When he was up one on the 18th, I was really hoping that he would pull it off. Just because it was the ultimate David vs. Goliath and I always root for the underdog. I think it’s in a Boston fan’s DNA after rooting for pre-2004 Sox teams for so long.

But Tiger being Tiger was able to step it up on the 18th to tie and won it on the first playoff hole. At least it was something entertaining to watch before the Sox.

So I tune into the Sox and Colon gives up a leadoff home run. Two batters later, an opposite field shot to Ryan Howard. OK, down 3-0 let’s flip back and forth. I think it’s worth noting that both Philly and Cinci are launching pads for home runs.

I flip back to the Sox and see that Grandpa Timlin is in the game, in the sixth inning of a two run game. WHAT?!? Why on Earth does Francona wave the white flag like this? Of course Grandpa Timlin gives up four runs and the Phillies run away with the game.

I think I’ve said this before but on a night when Willie Randolph is fired by the Mets, I think Timlin should be fired as well. Not released, not waived, I want the press release to say, “Mike Timlin was fired by the Boston Red Sox for poor job performance.”

He has a 7.06 ERA in mid June. That’s reason enough for me.

At least we get to see the C’s tonight. Reports are that Ray Allen will be there regardless of family issues and that Kendrick Perkins is a game time decision. I called it as a seven game series on my Finals Preview but I would like them to end this tonight. It’s your home court, the crowd will be behind you, and all the suspect refereeing in the world shouldn’t stop the Celtics from winning this game.

Go C’s!!!
