HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!
So I’m not going to pretend that I stayed up and watched because I didn’t. When the team went down 20 in the third (after getting as close as 12) I rolled over and missed everything. But how awesome it must have been. Since I fell alseep, I’ll give you the run down from all my friends’ messages to me.
10:40PM (DaGuy) – Don’t go away, this IS gonna get good… trust me!
11:08PM (DaGuy) – Ok, SAT time.
Tony Allen:Boston Celtics as Freddy Coleman:???
And the Celtics are within 4!!! I told you NOT to go to bed! Fraud fraud fraud…
Now within 2!!!! yes 2, down from 24! FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
11:36PM (Voice Mail from DaGuy) – Something to the effect of “please don’t tell me you went to bed Jay, please God, don’t tell me you went to bed…”
12:07AM (DaGuy) – For all of you who changed the channel, turned your heads, or went to bed. Shame, shame, SHAME ON YOU!!!! You aren’t alone.
1:27AM (HAB H8R) – never give up. never give up. never give up. the celtics didn’t. and neither should you. you should be ashamed of yourself……jk.
So like Oliver Stone I was able to piece together everything with highlights, ESPN, and plenty of post game comments. My favorite of which was Kobe Bryant when asked about coping with the loss, “Whine about it tonight, a lot of wine, a lot of beer, a couple shots, maybe like 20 of them, digest it, get back to work tomorrow. Nothing you can do.”
Great that Phil Jackson said to his team, “You have to win the third quarter.” Sure enough the team not only lost the third quarter (for the fourth time in four games this series) they lost it by 16 and went on to lose the fourth quarter by eight.
What did we learn from this? DON’T GO TO SLEEP ON THE C’S!!!!
Like DaGuy said, the C’s tied it in the fourth and then went down four. But a timely time out called by Doc followed by a three by Posey cut it to one. The swapped points and then Eddie House hit an 18 footer to go up 84-83 and the Celtics didn’t look back. Also huge kudos for Doc letting Pierce cover Kobe in the second half after Pierce requested it at the half.
The Celtics won the game 97-91 and are one win away from winning a championship.
Pierce and Allen Celebrate
My favorite highlight? Sasha punching the chair on the bench after his team used the “olé” defensive technique on Ray Allen late in the fourth.
Interesting observation from Steve Burton that there hasn’t been a championship won in Boston since 1986. He’s right. The Pats won all three Super Bowls on neutral sites (but will never have a shot at winning at home) and the Sox won both their Championships in sweeps, celebrating in St Louis and Denver respectively.
It’ll be interesting to see if David Stern, who says that NBA officials don’t influence games (BULLSHIT!!), has a “suspect” crew for game five that will absolutely influence the game and more importantly force a Game Six.
See you Sunday and I won’t sleep, regardless of the score, until the end of the game.
OH MY GOD, I can’t believe that you went to bed!
Did you have a busy day scheduled today? What a game! I admit, I turned away in the second, but came back at halftime.
What was a bigger choke, Yankees in ’04 ALCS, or Lakers in ’08 game 4? Yankee’s for the series, Lakers for a single game!
I would like to see the series to come back to Boston, Game 6 at the Shawmut/Fleet/TD Banknorth – Center/Garden the energy in that place has been AWESOME!
We really are “Back to the Future” – Loving that I am back in 1984 again!
Spank LA!
JC
I am not the type to just… GIVE UP on anything. A perennial optimist I guess. Or just a loyal sucker, who’s been incredibly lucky since February 2001.(Pats, Sox, and now Celtics) But none-the-less, I’ve been to, watched loyally, and rooted without cause for the Celtics, for all of my life! This is the greatest sports era in Boston EVER
So you really DID go to bed Jay? I’m sorry for you, you missed one hell of a game! I was hoping that you’re lack of a signal in the hole, aka Rowley, was the reason that you wouldn’t answer/reply to me. If it goes to a game 6, I’m commin over to watch. Invited or not, I’m on my way. I’ll bring the bouze. The Celtics will bring the championchip!
I have to admit, superstition keeps me from finding out how to collect on my Madalay Bay ticket yet. Yes, the bet I put in on the Boston Celtics to win the NBA championchip back in August. I got 10 to 1 odds on that shit. (silly vegas)
I was just talking to one of my business associates yesterday. We were talking about the game comming up that night(last night) and I started in on how a Champion hasen’t been crowned at home in this town since 1986/87. And how much I wanted to see the Garden crowd go crazy in a celebration of a champ! I don’t root for my boys to lose, but I’ll be ok if they lose on Sunday. Actually I expect that they will. LA ain’t goin out like that….. or are they! (they’re a broken team now)How much fun is this?! I love it!
Boston is clearly the sports capitol of North America!!!
JC, you’re the man, miss you my friend.
-SHAKE IT UP BOSTON!!!!!!
Yeah I know, Mandalay Bay… Mee spel gud!
How the fuck do you go to bed??? I don’t care if I get 2 hours of sleep. I’ll go to work, be fuckin tired all day, then come home and take nap. Holy shit. They haven’t been in the finals since 86. Are you serious Jay?? Shame shame. Don’t get me wrong, I was flipping back and forth between the celts and Raiders of the Lost Ark during the 1st half. But once 2nd half came, had to watch no matter what.
