Back To The Goodness

After Monday’s loss by the Boston hockey team you really needed something to occupy your attention. So let’s get ready for some Celtics basketball!

Oh that’s right, that’s Wednesday night. Can someone please fucking tell me why they need to drag the fucking playoffs out for so long, especially when round one (for the C’s anyway) is a foregone conclusion? Play Sunday, day off, play Tuesday, day off for travel, play in Atlanta Thursday, a day off, and end the series on Saturday night. No instead we get Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Monday.

Someone get me David Stern. I need to punch him in the face. With a brick.

At least the Big Ticket won the Defensive Player of the Year. I guess it’s a pretty good consolation prize since he’s going to be screwed out of the MVP by Kobe, the rapist.

So having to wait for the Celtics we were treated to a Josh Beckett start for the ages. Or not. Seems that Beckett was scratched with a stiff neck. Well better than the fucking avulsion bullshit they gave us last year.

So what happens, well, I’ll be honest I didn’t get to see the whole game but started listening when Okie Dokey came in in the 7th and struck out Torri Hunter after retiring Anderson and Vlad. I changed the channel and he blew the lead.

In steps Grandpa Timlin and I was worried. After that first start back from the DL my faith in Timlin is really shook. With a guy on second I saw Chone (pronounced as it looks, if you want to be called Shawn or Sean, spell it that way jackass) and had a flash of a homerun. Instead he grounded out. Crisis averted.

Then we were treated to some Ellsbury speed as he scored from first on a Pedroia double. Little Dusty came through in the clutch on a night when Ellsbury, I’m hoping, solidified himself as the everyday center fielder (3-5, 3 runs, 2 homeruns), and writing Coco a ticket out of town. Not that I have beef with Coco and would love him as our fourth outfielder, but I think he would go all Jay Payton on the team and cause a ruckus. Teams as hot as this don’t need that bullshit.

Happy 49th to Tito as Papelmania came in the 9th and blew triple digit gas on the NESN gun. He struck out Vlad, Matthews, and Anderson to fly out to Manny to end it. So to recap that’s six straight wins and nine of the last ten.

As The Guy pointed out yesterday, being a Boston sports fan right now, we are all living the dream.

Rumor has it that Shaun (acceptable spelling as well) Alexander could be a Patriot next year as well. Imagine a three headed monster of him, Morris, and Maroney? Damn!

Life is Good.

Back In The Closet

“Jay, why would you play The Four Tops to start off your blog today?”

That’s a great question and I’m glad you brought it up. It’s because the Bruins just keep their level of disappointment the same every fucking year. This team hasn’t been to a Stanley Cup Final in almost 20 years and hasn’t won a Cup in my lifetime. 1972 was a long time ago.

So with all the hype and physical play that was touted by the media heading into last night’s game, you had to think that B’s really had a chance. But no sooner was the puck dropped and you had the typical sense of doom. The Bruins decided to abandon their physical play that was so successful for them in the series and were trounced by the Canadiens.

As we were watching we kept waiting for the Bruins to step up and hit someone and with the exception of a great PJ Axelson hip check, the Bruins hitting was non existent. Which is fine I guess because so was their power play. How on Earth do you not score at least once on the power play in six chances is beyond me.

So the Bruins jersey, that I dug out of the closet and took off after the team went down 3-0, heads back into the closet to maybe come out again next year. Seems an all too often sentiment with this franchise. Next year. I guess things could be worse, The Maple Leafs are without a Cup since ’67 and the Blackhawks haven’t won since 1961.

Bottom line is that in a world where the Mighty Ducks and Tampa Bay Lightning are listed on the Stanley Cup more recently than the Bruins is pathetic!

Que The Guy’s sign:

Trying to put a positive light on this, the team is young and looks to be on the right track. If they can find some fool to eat Murray’s contract or just buy him out, they should free up some money to bring in some defensive help which as we saw last night was a glaring need. Team defense wasn’t too bad but individual sucked.

So that’s the last Bruins post you’ll get for a while (I know you’re grateful). The only thing I’ll post between now and the fall is if there’s major news.

Back to the Sox, winners of 5 straight, the Celtics Championship run, and later this week I’ll have some NFL Draft insight.
