“You think you can stop us?!?”
So for the second week in a row my prediction was way off on the final score. Apparently I gave the Steelers too much credit in this game. Looking at their powerful running game (Parker did get over 100 yards) I figured the Pats would be dead in the water defensivly and for the 1st half they looked it. I also stated the obvious that the Pats need to establish the run in order for the play action to be effective, and sure enough the Pats get the ball at the start of the second quarter, fake the run to Maroney and Brady throws a 63 yard bomb to Randy Moss, blowing away Anthony Smith in the process.
At halftime, you have to imagine that Coach Bill, just punched someone in the face from the defense. All of a sudden, when it counted, the Pats were able to shut out the Steelers the entire second half.
So how good is Golden Boy Tom Brady? Well, to put it into some perspective, he threw for another 399 yards yesterday, 4 TD’s and no picks. To date he has 45 TD’s vs. just 5 picks. He’s 4 TD’s away from breaking Satan Mannings (thank you Fitzy) record for TD’s in a season. Randy Moss is at 19 TD catches, only 3 back of Jerry Rice’s record with 3 to play.
The Patriots can clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs with a victory against the Jets. That would mean that if they wanted to, and I don’t think they do, they could rest the team for the final two weeks of the season. I say the Belichick is out for blood, not only for a perfect 19-0 season but to shatter every record that’s within his grasp.
The Pats have just one road game remaining, at New York, what’s that a 45 minute plane ride? So in essence the team doesn’t need to leave home from now until they touchdown in Tempe that first weekend in February. I know I’m getting way ahead of myself, but realistically this team should roll the next two weeks (NY and Miami) leaving the Giants as the only “tough” opponent on the schedule.
And a top 5 draft pick come April? Thank You 49ers.
Isn’t it good to be a Boston fan? I couldn’t think of anything better.
I was laughing so hard when Moss caught his 2nd TD and turned around to find Smith, that was just classic. And of course the flea flicker from Moss, to Brady to Gaffney was just electric. That drove a steak thru the heart of the Steelers. It was nice to see them a little bitter at the end of the game. Notice how noone has accused the Pats of running up the score lately? Well until they play the Jets this weekend, by the way the spread is already set at 24. Bring on revenge-bowl!
I know it’s looking ahead a little too much but the New England Patriots Fan Club of AZ has a bunch of plans setup for the week of the superbowl. WBCN has already indicitated that they will be doing something at the Vine, and local TV media will also be at the Vine. It also sounds like there are plans to have a Pats fan party with former Pats players to make an appearance. So if the Pats make it out to AZ its going to be a fun week out here.
